Appcelerator conducted a survey of more than 2700 developers last month, to study the 3rd party developers perception of each of the six major mobile OS platforms – Apple iOS, Google Android, Palm/HP WebOS, Microsoft Phone 7, Nokia Symbian/MeeGo, and RIM Blackberry, and published the results last week. Some of the top findings include:
- Developer interest in apps for tablets has increased significantly since the iPad launch in Apr.
- Android topped in 3 of 10 categories as the most capable OS, most open OS, and the OS with best long-term outlook.
- Apple tops in the other 7 categories (why am i not surprised) including best app store, biggest consumer, and business apps, best near term outlook, and the most secure OS (not sure if this was before or inspite of the recent hit to its reputation)
- iOS and Android sustained a high level of interest, second tier platforms lost ground
- The number one developer irritation continues to be porting applications across platforms

Lot more details and the entire report after the break. Continue reading Apple iOS and Google Android lead in 3rd party developer apps
