You might not have still forgotten the Augen Gentouch 78. It arrived suddenly with a bang and at a price point where it was making an offer people couldn’t refuse. However, with poor hardware specs and a fair share of controversies pulled it down.
Augen, however, is already putting this experience behind it, and is looking forward towards making its next generation tablets, to be named “Espresso”. Yes, note the plural form of the word – Augen is planning, not one, but a range of Tablet PCs spanning a 7″ to a 10″ screen size. Augen is also claiming that these would be unveiled at the CES 2011 early next year. Augen still intends to retain the price point advantage, though they will retain for more than the Gentouch 78 did, and price the Espresso range of tablets between $199 and $399.
The lower-end Tablets might retain the resistive touch-screens, however, the more expensive of them will get a brand new capacitive multi-touch screen. They should also come with improved battery life up to around 10 hours.
Among other improvements, Augen is also announcing a new proprietary preloaded technology which brings a human factor to their Espresso line of tablets, which incorporates a form of human friendly input.
I am still not sure if i would buy a Tablet from their Espresso range, but i am sure cheering their spirit from the sidelines. More detail at Engadget or directly at Augen US.
