Well, Tablets of the Slate form factor are all the rage these days and everyone wants to get into this market segment with their own Tablet device with a difference.
The newest such Tablet with a difference is the AlessiTab. Alessi, a company focussed on kitchenwares, has come up with their own Tablet PC for the kitchen. The AlessiTab is a 10.1″ Android Tablet. Designed by Stefano Giavannoni, it comes with an extended base that acts as a stand and has expansion ports built onto it – SD card reader, USB ports, and HDMI out. It does compromise on mobility, but then it is intended to be on the kitchen counter and not carried around everywhere.
A 10.1″ capacitive touch screen, Android 2.1 Eclair, 1 GB of storage, Wifi b/g, a Webcam, DVB-T TV tuner, IPTV support, and a 6 hour battery completes the specs list. There will be no support for the Android market, but Alessi has included some chosen applications that they feel will be required by their customers. You should be able to get one by November this year for Euros 399 in Italy. More details here.
