It has been a while since Archos announced the Archos 8 Home tablet, however unlike its siblings the Archos 7 and the Archos 5 tablet PCs, it has not been spotted much after the initial announcement.
However, things have now changed. Archos lounge seems to have got their hands on the Archos 8 Home tablet, which looks more like a digital photo frame. They have also posted a longish video comparing it to the Archos 7. The Archos 8 Home tablet is more of a counter-top device. An 8″ screen with a huge bezel surrounding it, it is more of a digital photo frame running the Android OS.
The Archos 8 runs Google’s Android OS and can do video playback, web surfing, etc., but it looks more like a digital picture frame than a tablet PC. The bezel around the 8″ touch panel display is enormous. There’s a nice long kick stand behind the tablet to prop it up, i can’t imagine how one could hold the device in two hands and type using the on-screen keyboard.
Archos Lounge has posted one of the first detailed video that shows off the new Archos 8 Home Tablet. The video is in French, but should still get a pretty good idea of what the tablet device looks like. Of course, if you speak french, please add on and leave your views in comments to let us anything of significance, that we may have missed.
The specifications and other details are still missing, but if it is anything like the internals of the Archos 5 and 7, it should have an ARM Cortex A8 processor. The Archos 7 comes with one that runs at 600 MHz, and the Archos 5 bumps it up to 800 MHz.
