If this Nielson report is true, then either the Blackberry user base are the most fickle minded of the lot, or the Blackberry OS user experience leaves a lot to be desired.
The report highlights several aspects of the US Smartphone market. Some highlights below:
- Blackberry retains its lead in smartphone user market share at 35%. It is closely followed by Apple iOS at 28%, Microsoft Windows Mobile at 15% and Android at 13%.
- The Blackberry user base also seems to be growing the fastest acquiring 33% of new users. Android is fast gaining ground at 27%, with Apple iOS at 23%, and MS Windows Mobile at just 13%.

If you thought all was well with Blackberry leading on all counts, here is where the cookie crumbles. Only 42% of the Blackberry users were like to remain so, While Apple iOS and Android are likely to retain 89% and 71% of their existing user base.
And since Blackberry’s current user base was the largest, they are also likely to fall the hardest loosing 58% of its user base to other OSes when the users upgrade their handsets.
