July 15th, 2010Velocity Micro, known for their bright and colorful high-end desktops and notebooks, are now making a foray into the tablet PC segment with a big bang.
They have announced not one, but three variants each targeted at a different segment, and they should be released this August. The Cruz Storypad is a tablet PC with 7″ 4:3 800 x 600 full color touchscreen display, targeted at kids. It features a kid friendly, drop resistant package, and packs a lot of multimedia capabilities. It comes pre-installed with an audio book reader to read stories to children, and should be available in pink, blue and green for a price of $199.
The next will be the Cruz Reader, which will be a 7″ tablet PC again with a 7″ 800 x 600 full color touch screen ideal for viewing eBooks, and magazines, as well as videos and web content. It comes with wifi b/g connectivity, full web browser support, and built-in Dictionary, Notepad, calendar, Alarm Clock, Contacts, Games, and other useful applications. It should have a battery that gives it 10 hours of use. The Cruz Reader should be priced at a reasonable $199.
The final tablet in the Cruz line-up will be the Cruz Tablet, which is the only device in the Cruz line to feature a 7″ 16:9 widescreen at 800 x 480 pixels. It will also be the only one with a capacitive display. This one will be priced at $299.
