HP Slate 500 is not a consumer product, will launch this fall for enterprises

In possibly what I would call a very smart move by HP, Todd Bradley, HP Personal Systems Group VP, speaking at the Fortune Brainstorm Tech Conference, has said “The Slate 500 will be more customer specific than broadly deployed,” and that they would launch the Windows 7 based Slate tablet PC “for the Enterprise” this fall.
Smart because a windows 7 based tablet PC was anyway giong to be a segment specific device, and even if broadly deployed, I am not sure how many units they would have managed to push off the retail shelves.
There has been no oficial announcement thus, but it clearly looks like HP is going to develop a range of WebOS devices targetting retail consumers, leaving the windows 7 based slate for the enterprises.
Good move HP – Keep Microsoft happy while you do what you have to do and focus the bulk of your energies pushing the WebOS.
